POLICE were today hunting a teenager who tried to incite a racial fight between school pupils in a Blackburn park.

Police said two children had decided to fight each other on Queen's Park, Queen's Road, Blackburn, attracting a large crowd.

Inspector Graham Ashcroft said there wasn't any indication that the fight was racially motivated, but a teenager attempted to make the groups of whites and Asians fight each other.

Police were today hoping to arrest a youth for a public order offence.

Insp Ashcroft said it appeared many of the children, around 11 years old, were on an induction day from primary schools at Queen's Park High School and began fighting on their way home.

One eye-witness, who asked not to be identified, said: "I was just driving past after picking my kids up from school when I noticed this group of people gathered at the back of the school.

"I saw a few lads being bundled into the back of a police van and police were patrolling the area with dogs."

Inspector Graham Ashcroft, on the scene, said: "It has all started because two of the pupils had a dispute with each other.

"So they've gone down there and a large group has gone there too.

"They've started fighting and two others have got involved.

"When our patrol arrived they dispersed.

"There were no injuries as far as we know.

"We searched the park but there wasn't anything like a weapon left behind. It would appear to be an isolated incident."

A spokesman for Blackburn with Darwen Council said: "It's a matter that the school will be dealing with. However, we will provide support if we are required to do so."

Nobody was available to comment at Queen's Park High School.
