IT'S one thing learning about life on the farm in books, but nothing beats a trip to the farmyard itself.

That's what youngsters who attend Chapelfield Nursery experienced when they paid a visit to Smithills Open Farm.

And pictured making friends with a baby bunny is Rhea Charnock.

The day out was not just a summer treat, it also tied in with the topic work the four-year-olds have been doing at their Clough Street nursery. They spent the morning feeding, petting and playing with all the animals and then took part in a question and answer session with the people who actually care for the creatures.

Head of Nursery Miss Deborah Wexler said: "The children really enjoyed themselves and, not surprisingly, sang Old MacDonald's Farm in the coach on the way home."
