GUNSHOTS were fired during Sunday's (June 24) open air Radio 1 concert in Heaton Park.

Two men were later arrested by police in connection with the incident which happened as crowds made their way home. But police praised the behaviour of the pop fans.

A spokeswoman said: "There were very few arrests made and the crowd were generally well behaved."

The Radio 1 One Big Sunday event saw thousands of music lovers converge on Heaton Park to enjoy performances by various band.

But headline act "Baby Spice" Ema Bunton was booed by part of the crowd during her act.

As the crowds headed home, a number of gunshots were heard in the park. The police armed response unit was put on stand-by but they were not required as uniformed officers identified and arrested the two men. No-one was injured.

The suspects were being interviewed about the matter.

Despite the incident, police praised the crowd for their behaviour throughout the two-hour live concert.
