TWO people have come forward to job-share to allow a project to improve the lives of parents and their children, to begin.

Sure Start secured £1.7million of Government funding to launch the five-year project in Bacup and Stacksteads.

The programme manager gave back word before she was due to start and now the joint chairmen of the scheme Michaela Francioli, of Tupbridge Family Centre, and health visitor Lynda Stephenson have agreed to job share to fill the post.

In the short-term the scheme has offices at the council planning section in Stubbylee Hall, Bacup, but long-term they will develop Bacup Baths.

At a fun day at Bacup Leisure Hall more than 70 families attended which was beyond the expectations of organisers.

Future events will be at the leisure hall on July 18 and August 1, 15 and 29 and at Bacup Library on July 25 and August 8 and 22. All events from noon to 2pm.

The project is looking to buy four mini-buses which will be used for before and after schools work and during the day they will be available for work in the community at a minimum charge.

Organisers are also looking at the possibility of a play bus to take the service to more isolated communities like Weir.
