A PARAMEDIC who answered an emergency medical call at Mark Wogden's home was threatened with a knife.

Blackburn magistrates heard that Wogden later appeared at a bedroom window, his face and stomach covered in blood and still carrying the 8in kitchen knife.

And he was eventually "brought under control" by members of the police tactical support unit who had been brought in to assist.

Wogden, 39, of Bolton Road, Blackburn, had previously been convicted after a trial of affray. He was sentenced to an 18-month community rehabilitation order and ordered to pay £50 costs.

Clare Fanning, prosecuting, said paramedics had dealt with Wogden on previous occasions and usually had police support. On this occasion they were called to a medical emergency and the first paramedic discovered Wogden sitting in a chair with facial injuries and blood on his face. As Wogden stood up the paramedic saw the handle of a knife sticking out of the back pocket of his jeans and immediately left the house, alerting his colleague as he left.
