POLICE are warning people to be on the look-out after a conman stole cash from a pensioner after tricking his way into her home.

Detectives say a 'considerable amount' of cash was stolen in the raid and they have renewed their appeal to be on guard against bogus callers.

The thief called at the woman's house in Cromwell Street, Blackburn, at about 12.20 on Wednesday afternoon claiming he wanted to leave something for the house next door.

The woman, who has asked not to be identified, allowed him into the house where he searched the kitchen and stole the cash before leaving.

Det Sgt Neil Hunter described the thief as very plausible and warned people not to be taken in.

He said: "This man was smartly dressed and carrying either a book or a clipboard. People should always ask for identification.

The thief was described as white, 5ft 8ins, aged in his early 30s, wearing a white, short sleeved shirt and tie and black trousers.

Anyone with information should call Blackburn Police on 01254 51212 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
