NO wonder leader of the council, John Byrne, had a grim face in the photograph accompanying the article declaring "Another chapter in town centre success story" (Bury Times, June 1).
Who do they think they are kidding? This new road layout is, without doubt, Bury's answer to the Dome! It cost almost half a million and doesn't do the job.
Traffic is supposedly prohibited between 10am and 4pm , yet Councillor Byrne must know that everyone and his mother drives down at any time during the day. But, Coun Byrne, don't even think of spending more of our money on either police resources or wardens to ensure that these measures are enforced. Traffic restrictions are not working.
Now to the extra wide footpaths. There is never more than a couple of dozen people using them so why do we need them? Our capital city, with busy Oxford Street, has two-way traffic and average size footpaths, yet little old Bury seemingly can't cope.
When will our council consult and listen, rather than consult and then inform. I will continue to make readers aware of what I see as Labour's expensive "follies".
