DAISY Hill FC, from the North West Counties League, have confirmed the appointment of former Tetley Walker boss Alan Aspinall as their new manager.

Aspinall will bring with him Tommy Berry, who was his first team coach at Tetley Walker last season. They replace the previous management duo of Brian Richardson and Brian Smith who resigned due to work and other commitments.

The new management pairing guided Tetley Walker to second place in North West Counties League Divison Two last season, but were left without a club following Tetley Walker's resignation from the league, as a result of being evicted from their Long Lane ground in Warrington.

Their appointment is a big boost to everyone at Daisy Hill, after losing the management team who guided the club to their best ever finishing position of ninth in the league.

Aspinall is looking forward to the new challenge and is keen to build on the progress made at the club last season.

First priority

"The previous management team did a good job, and my first priority is to secure the services of as many of last year's squad as possible. However, I know already that three or four players have moved on and to fill those gaps I'm looking to bring in players who I know can perform at this level.

"Everyone who was here last season will get a chance to show what they can do, and we have a number of pre-season friendlies arranged already which will give all the players a chance to impress.

"With two new clubs joining the league, and others such as Alsager and Stone Dominoes showing considerable promise since joining the league in the last couple of years, it could be quite a tough league campaign this time round.

"However, I'm looking forward to working with the players and the committee at Daisy Hill, and I firmly believe that the potential is there to improve on what has been achieved at the club so far."
