RANGERS' midfielder Tugay Kerimoglu remains top of the Rovers wanted list as boss Graeme Souness bids to make it the perfect one-two.

The Premiership new boys have been linked with a clutch of potential new signings over the summer and Souness is likely to strengthen his squad further before the big kick-off at Derby County on August 18.

But always top of his hit-list, as well as completing the permanent signing of loan star Alan Mahon, was the duo of Corrado Grabbi and Tugay.

And having completed the £6 million signing of the goal-scoring Grabbi from Italian club Ternana, all efforts are now being channelled into securing the services of the Turkish international Tugay.

A £1.3 million deal has been struck with Rangers for the midfield play-maker and the move now hings on a successful appeal to the Department of Employment, which vetoed Blackburn's original application for a work permit.

Ewood chief executive John Williams confirmed: "The main priority at the moment is to get a work permit for Tugay and we are doing our utmost to do that. We are working on the case for our appeal and expect to get a date for that soon. The signing of Alan Mahon was about timing and Graeme's other two main targets were Grabbi and Tugay. We got Grabbi and we want to deliver Tugay."
