HEATING giant Baxi is to axe 250 jobs within two years at its Bamber Bridge plant.

The cash-strapped company will cease manufacturing at its Brownedge Lane site in two years in a bid to boost profits. Baxi chiefs have confirmed the site will remain as an administration centre and said 60 jobs will go at the firm's Padiham site.

South Ribble MP David Borrow said: "I have been in touch with Baxi and we are setting up a meeting to discuss whether or not there is any room for negotiation and whether other jobs are going to be created. I want to explore the possibilities of other production work been done in Bamber Bridge in the hope of creating jobs."
