WHAT a piece of incitement to revenge and further evil was published in your newspaper last week, concerning the Jamie Bulger killers.

One man was reported to give a balanced and fair opinion. Others questioned had obviously read the tabloid with their 'revenge is sweet -- let's get 'em' newspapers.

Soon after the tragic death of the little boy, every child was harnessed to an adult by a strap, for safety. Before many weeks had passed those 'caring' parents had abandoned the straps and children were, once more, wandering about shopping centres including the one where Jamie Bulger was abducted. I saw that when I passed by the entrance in a car driven by a relative who lives in the area and shops there.

Uniformed opinion and views of the treatment meted out to his killers has obviously been fed into people's minds and there has been no attempt to sort out the true facts from hearsay.

Thanks to the hysteria whipped up, yet again, by ill-considered reporting, other youths will be in danger if they move into an area as strangers and are in a similar age group to Venables and Thompson.

Lynch law is apparently brewing -- and what a field day for reporters that will be.

And none of this fear and hatred will bring back the little boy who died so tragically. However, a period of calm reflection and an informed public attitude may help to establish a society where children will be cared for and brought up to respect life -- their own and that of others.

What standards of care and decency had been taught to the two boys who killed Jamie Bulger?

We are all at fault yet how vengeful we can be when two young children act out faithful the horror with which we allow them to be surrounded -- in cheap horror magazines, film and television pictures.
