A PENSIONER died after she fell when her 'uncontrollable' dog got its lead tangled with another animal's outside her front door.

A Burnley inquest was told how widow Mrs Mary May Sedman, who at first had seemed fine and did not want to be taken to hospital, had been pulled over several times before by her excitable Cairn Westie cross Charlie, described by a nearby shop owner as a 'handful'.

Retired shop worker, Mrs Sedman, of Sharp Street, Barrowford, died in Burnley General Hospital, on 4 May, aged 77.

The hearing opening had been told how she had undergone heart surgery 18 months before, her mobility seemed to have suffered and she got the dog to help her get out.

Tracy Warren, of Park Street, Barrowford, told the inquest she was at a nearby tanning centre about 7.45pm on May 3, when she heard a commotion outside and saw somebody lying on the floor.

Two dogs were 'going mad,' Mrs Sedman was on the ground and she went over to see what had happened. The dogs were barking at each other which was not helping, but Mrs Sedman was helped up.

She had blood running down the side if her head and a lump on the side but it was a shock to find out she had died later.

Miss Warren said she had taken Mrs Sedman into her home, she was restless and said she felt sick. She was confused and shouting at her dog which was jumping up. Mrs Sedman could not control the animal.
