A FAMILY'S prayers for a dead aunt were disturbed by members of another Asian family who came round to settle an old score.

Blackburn magistrates heard that a claw hammer and a baseball bat were brandished during the disturbance that followed in Audley Range on Wednesday afternoon.

Malik Khan, 26, of St James Road, Blackburn, pleaded guilty to using threatening behaviour.

He was given a conditional discharge for 12 months and ordered to pay £40 costs.

The court heard that police were called by members of Khan's family and when they arrived they saw a large group of males chasing a vehicle containing some other people.

Two members of the group were carrying the hammer and baseball bat and as they were being arrested by the officers Khan intervened and became abusive.

Daniel King, defending, said prayers were being said for his aunty and it was a very respectful and sombre occasion.

While this was taking place some people arrived who were bent on causing trouble.

"Tempers flared, people were arrested and my client accepts that he lost his temper and acted in a disorderly manner," said Mr King.

"The whole incident has cast a very embarrassing shadow over what should have been a very respectful occasion."
