GREENSLEEVES has just been voted the most hated piece of music of all time by telephone users.

Thank goodness - I thought it was only me it drives bats.

A survey of 1,000 people carried out for Stressbusting.co.uk reveals that we spend 45 hours a year holding on to the phone, waiting to hear a real voice.

Rather than calming, as it's supposed to do, the music played sends stress levels soaring.

Greensleeves, the 16th century gem written by Henry VIII, irritated 23 per cent. Nessun Dorma and Simply the Best were joint second with Lloyd Webber's Memory, Scot Joplin's The Entertainer and Vivaldi's Four Seasons following hot on the trail.

Can we not do away with them altogether? I'm more than willing to hang on in silence.
