ALTHOUGH some livestock restrictions imposed on individual farms during the foot and mouth crisis have now been lifted, officials have warned that other restrictions are still in place.

D Notices were lifted last week in the Great Harwood area, but the movement of livestock, machinery and grasses, in areas still infected is still restricted without a licence.

A spokesperson for DEFRA said: "If a farm is within 10 kilometres of an infected farm then they will still need a licence to move animals -- and individual circumstances will be taken into account when deciding whether or not to issue one.

"Farms which are not in an infected area can go back to normality."

Brian Holgate, of Kayfold Farm, Ramsgreave, whose farm has not been infected but is in an infected area, said: "Because the D Notices have been lifted, people might think that it's OK to resume as normal, but we have no idea when we will get back to normality.

"We still cannot move any animals without a licence, the post cannot be delivered in the normal way and footpaths are still closed.

"We can't even sell the animals for a fair price as there are no auctions open, so we have to deliver straight to the abattoir and accept what they give."
