VISITORS to Summerseat can enjoy a day out in the countryside next Saturday as part of the Irwell Valley Sculpture trail.

People can travel on the steam railway, visit a fete at Rowlands Church and walk to the scenic view point of Brox's Brow, where artist Clare Negus will be working.

Clare said: "The seasonal influx of tourists parallels man's use of Summerseat as a summer pasture for sheep.

"Sheep left to graze often create well-worn pathways, the human equivalent being desire lines.

"Now, in collaboration with the local community a new desire line, leading to an overlooked beauty spot, will be made.

"Each participant will receive a certificate as a memento of their involvement and prizes will be awarded.

"If you are interested and want to find out more, why not come along?"

The work of other artists can also be seen in the village including a Stop, Look and Listen project with Anita Burrows from Colne, which is in the methodist school.
