YOUNGSTERS had Stars in their Eyes as they celebrated their last day of term.

Coronation Street star Malcolm Hebden who plays the bumbling Norris Cole was there to oversee the whole thing as judge for the copy of the famous TV show.

Westholme School, in Meins Road, Blackburn put on the Stars In Their Eyes event as a last-day term extravaganza.

Organised by head of drama Holly Binge, acts ranging from Celine Dion to Destiny's Child performed for the school. And being an all-girl school didn't stop a rousing take on Oasis with 'Noel' and 'Liam' made-up with false eye-brows and not-so-designer stubble.

And although many of the contestants confessed to being petrified on the day, there was no shortage of volunteers.

Holly Binge said: "I auditioned 30 or so acts over three days and chose the best 11 to perform. The standard was very good and it was difficult to choose."

Information communication and technology teacher Gordon Whitfield took on the role of Matthew Kelly for the day and all acts sang live to a backing tape, to the wild delight of the audience.

But the biggest cheer was reserved for Oasis whose live rendition of Wonderwall -- played by the four members themselves -- brought the house down, a fact not lost on judge Malcolm.

The actor, who is originally from Burnley but now lives in Manchester, said: "I chose them because they fitted the brief which was to entertain. They sang and played well and there was a lot of acting involved. There were several other acts that were equally as good but I went for the fun factor with Oasis. The singer did the Liam Gallagher slobbish thing perfectly." Cath Brassington, of Fence, who as 'Liam' led the band to victory and a booty of gift vouchers, said it came easy to her.

The 14-year-old joked: "I'm just naturally loutish anyway."

Malcolm said all the acts were winners and one lucky girl certainly was. Sofia Panagi, 16, of Preston, was given the surprise of her life when she finished her song as part of chart-topping trio Destiny's's Child -- she was told she was going to meet the real thing.

Flanked by a film crew from MTV her sister Christina took to the stage to tell her she had won a competition Sofia entered months ago. A waiting limo took the girls straight to London to meet the girls.

Sofia said: "I can't believe it. I never thought I would win the competition."

Holly Binge said the event was a massive success.
