RESIDENTS who have regularly complained about not being able to park outside their own houses in Colne have reached the final hurdle in their wish for a residents-only parking scheme.
Members of the Colne and District Committee approved the idea and will now ask Lancashire County Council to approve the introduction of the scheme along High Street and Union Street and the upper sections of Windy Bank.
The council received a petition from the residents of High Street in Autumn last year which stated that a large number of vehicles belonging to town centre employees and shoppers were being left in front of their homes causing problems for the residents, many of whom are elderly.
Disc parking was originally discussed by the committee but it was not possible to finance it .
If given the green light, the residents will be asked to pay £10 per year towards implementing and maintaining the scheme.
