STOCKPORT County chief Andy Kilner is preparing to launch a new bid for Ewood exile Simon Grayson.

Kilner has been tracking the 31-year-old defender for most of the summer after he impressed during a four month loan spell at Edgeley Park last season.

And, though County have yet to make an official approach, Kilner will make a fresh move for the player in the next few days.

"It's going to take some working out but the bottom line is that I think the lad wants to come and play football with us and we want to have him here," said Kilner.

Once County make their move, Grayson is likely to jump at the chance of regular first team football after his career has come to a standstill at Ewood under Graeme Souness.

The former Aston Villa utility man has already been told he won't play for the club again.

And he is now desperate to get away after being left out of Rovers' pre-season tour of Austria and Germany.

"I want to get away from Blackburn as soon as I can and start playing regular football again," said Grayson.

"I already knew the writing was on the wall a while ago but for me and Marlon Broomes to be left out of the tour tells us both that we are not wanted.

"Obviously, I've heard all the speculation about Stockport being interested and my agent has spoken to them and they've said they are interested.

"But it just seems to be dragging on a little bit.

'I'd certainly be interested in a move there, though, because I enjoyed my loan spell with them last season."
