TWO fires which broke out within 20 minutes of each other just yards apart are being treated as suspicious.

Police have been called to investigate after a storage building belonging to Greaves Park Nursery was destroyed following an early morning blaze.

Firefighters had already been called to Pointer Court on Aston Road minutes earlier to tackle a fire which had gutted an MG car.

The flames from the storage shed were just inches from the main school building when the firemen arrived and only their prompt action prevented a much larger blaze.

"It was very lucky that the fire didn't spread to the school," said a spokesman for the fire brigade.

"Both the storage building and the MG car were destroyed and it certainly looks like both fires were started deliberately."

A police spokesman said: "The fires are suspicious and are now under investigation."
