BURY AND DISTRICT

SEA ANGLERS

ON Sunday, ten members travelled to Conway to fish aboard "Lady Gwen II", sailing at 7am. The weather was breezy, turning to a heat-wave later in the day. The party stopped to catch mackerel but only three were caught and a further sail out yielded 24.

The first wreck fished was a World War II freighter which proved to be snaggy, standing 32 feet up from the sea bed. Dennis from Rochdale, fishing baited feathers, successfully landed 7lb cod. Several more codling were caught and Eddie Collins also had 6lb pollack taken on a bright orange red gill.

After a productive hour, the party sailed further out to another wreck which produced more pollack and small codling to 3lb. A further wreck produced similar catches and a final fish on the first wreck produced more pollack and codling and a further loss of terminal tackle.

A successful trip on a low tide with plenty of fish returned, each member had seven or eight quality fish. The party had hoped to anchor up to fish conger, but the adverse wind and lack of sufficient mackerel bait prevented this.
