ON Saturday Sutton CC 1st XI hosted Wavertree at New Street and had an immediate breakthrough with Ray Foster taking a wicket with the fourth ball of the game.

Unfortunately that brought Wavertree's Indian professional Sanjay to the crease, who blasted the Sutton bowling around the ground on his way to 90 and Wavertree were able to declare on 190-6.

Sutton started well and were up with the required run rate until skipper Mike Rimmer fell for 48.

The chase faltered until Ste Greener smashed 51 in no time. But when he fell to a seemingly unfortunate lbw decision, Sutton could not maintain their challenge and ended up 157 all out.

The club's 2nd XI were beaten at Wavertree. Batting first, Wavertree made 180-6 declared. In reply, Sutton batted poorly were all out for 55. Only highlight of the day for Sutton was Ste Moss's four-wicket haul.

On Sunday the 3rd XI hosted Arriva. Unfortunately some of the visitors' players must have read the wrong timetable and did not turn up.

Having borrowed some home players, Arriva batted first and were 107 all out with Sutton under-11s player, Rob Hughes scoring 13. Sutton comfortably passed this total for the loss of only four wickets.

The club would like thank their friends Jack and Barbara Haycock for their continued support.
