THE weather may have taken a turn for the worse this week but there is still a sunny outlook on the entertainment scene during the coming weeks.

THE Theatre Royal, Corporation Street has an evening of dance in store on Wednesday, July 25 when the Brigham Young University International Folk Dance Ensemble take to the stage from 7.30pm. They will be presenting more than a dozen ethnic cultures including Eastern and Western Europe, the Middle East, Asia and North America in this authentic display of folk traditions.

AND the ever-popular American Wrestling returns to the theatre on Saturday, July 28 from 7pm featuring 'the people's champion' Rock Steadfast as The Rock, Brad Texas as Stone Cold Steve Austin and Brad Kirk as Kane. There will also be the first UK appearance of top female wrestlers with Cheri versus Wyomine Wild.

ON Friday, July 20 the Citadel, Waterloo Street, has Mad Dogs and Englishmen on stage from 8pm, supported by Bushack from Wigan. Mad Dogs and Englishmen is an exciting new project which brings together Joseph Porter (Blyth) and Glenn and Gary Miller (Whisky Priests) for a unique blend of music.

THEN on Friday, July 27 bands from the St Helens Music Collective will be providing an evening of music at the Citadel, also starting at 8pm.

POPULAR, Yorkshire-based medium Stephen Holbrook returns to the Hilton Hotel, St Helens on Sunday, August 5 with curtain up at 7.30pm and doors open from 7pm. Tickets are £7.50 and you can pay on the door or ring 01924 898688.

SUTTON Manor Art Group are exhibiting their work at the Mansion House, Victoria Square until Friday, July 27. This is open from Monday to Friday from 9.30am to 4pm and admission is free.

A CONCERT in aid of St Helens Amateur Operatic Society will be held at Eccleston United Reform Church, Bleak Hill on Saturday, July 21 from 7.30pm. Tickets, priced £5 including tea and biscuits, are available from Paul Lyon on 01744 757741.

THE World of Glass is the venue of the launch of the Model Boat and Maritime Art Exhibition at noon on Saturday, July 21. This is being launched with a regatta by the St Helens & District Model Boat Club and with the help of the Sankey Canal Restoration Society (SCARS).

The regatta provides the chance to see some of the 20 model tugs, warships and sailing vessels that will be on display to a backdrop of maritime art by local artist Brian Podmore and supporting artists. The exhibition and regatta is free and open from 10am to 5pm until September 21.

In addition, on the day of the launch there will be a children's Pirate Fancy Dress Competition with a first prize of a family ticket to The World of Glass. Entry is 50p with all money raised going to the NSPCC. Judging is at 2pm.

THE annual Newton Music Festival will be held from Friday, July 20 to Sunday, July 22 at Mesnes Park, Park Road North, Newton-le-Willows. The event features, bands, solo artists and a brass band. Further details available from 01925 221790.

A JAZZ Rendezvous takes place at the Star Inn, Rainford every Sunday from 8.30pm, admission is free.

ST HELENS Hard of Hearing Club meet on Monday, July 23 when their special guest will be Rev Roger Driver from Wigan. This is at the Deaf Centre, Dentons Green Lane, starting at 1.30pm.

A TALK by Rosemary Tyler, curator of Prescot Museum, entitled 'The Mysterious World of Herbs and Potions' will be the highlight of the next meeting of the Sutton Historic Society. This is on Thursday, July 26, 7pm start at the Wheatsheaf, Mill Lane, Sutton. Admission is free.
