RECORD buy Ian Moore is champing at the bit to get started in his quest to spearhead a promotion push at Turf Moor.

The £1 million striker hung on to his club record tag when the Clarets missed out on their summer swoop for QPR front man Peter Crouch.

And Moore plans to live up to the billing again by carrying on where he left off at the end of last season.

He said: "I finished quite well with three goals in six games and it's important for me to get off to a good start. Last season I got two goals in the first game for Stockport and I would love that type of start again.

"I got 14 last season and while I'm not one to set targets I definitely want to score more than that this season. I definitely want to be near the 20-mark."

Burnley were the lowest scorers in the First Division's top 11 with just 50 from 46 games.

And Moore admits they need to improve their strike-rate if Stan Ternent's men are to force their way into the top six.

He added: "All the top teams of the past couple of years have had two strikers around the twenties and that's going to be important.

"We have to score a lot more goals this season, and not concede as many, and I think we'll be okay."

Moore enjoyed his final training session at today's Turf Moor open day before the Clarets squad head off for the start of the Isle of Man Steam Packet Festival.

Burnley kick-off against Wrexham in Douglas tomorrow night before playing the Isle of Man in Ramsey on Tuesday evening and Oldham back in Douglas the night after, before a possible final next Saturday. And Moore, keen to get into action after warming up in a behind-closed-doors win over Halifax in the week, is looking to go one better than his last trip to the island as he works through his first pre-season programme with the Clarets.

He said: "Coming in December last season I missed pre-season and the early league games but I feel I've settled in now.

"I get on well with the lads and it will be great to start the season with the team.

"It always takes a few games to get your natural sharpness back and to get firing on all cylinders.

"I've been to the Isle of Man with Stockport when we got beat in the final by Oldham two years ago. It will be a decent tour and with Oldham and Wrexham, who might have played a few more games than us already, they will be testing games.

"We're looking forward to it and then when we come back we've got games against Everton and Chelsea which will be good for the supporters and the players.

"The main thing is that we get the fitness right. If we pick up a few wins so be it, just as long as we're ready and okay for the first game at Sheffield Wednesday."

Moore will be joined on the trip by namesake Alan Moore, Paul Hughes, Dimitri De Conde and Tony Ellis as they look to earn full-time moves to Turf Moor.

He is impressed with the new faces and is looking forward to rekindling a partnership with Hughes, who played seven games alongside Moore during a loan spell with Stockport a couple of years ago.

"He's a decent player. He's comfortable on the ball and he looks for the centre-forward, which is perfect for me," Moore said.

Meanwhile, the Clarets have again been linked with a possible move for Greek under-21 international striker Dimitri Papadopoulos.
