BURNLEY are out to gain revenge for a humiliating defeat at the hands on the Isle of Man when they take on the host club in the Manx tournament tonight - and Dimitri Papadopoulos could be in their ranks.

Clarets boss Stan Ternent is believed to have jetted back to the Isle of Man last night with a deal for the Greek Under 21 striker close to completion.

The 20-year-old, valued at around £1m, has said he has signed but there still seems to be some loose ends to tie up.

Either way the Clarets will be keen to get one over on the Isle of Man side who celebrated their first victory over a league side in open play in more than a hundred years when they defeated Burnley 1-0 last summer.

It wasn't a taste of what was to come - life in the First Division proved more than comfortable for Burnley - but the side would like to right that wrong tonight in Ramsey.

"I remember I came on as a substitute to try and rescue the situation when we were already 1-0 down," said winger Glen Little.

"To be honest at the time the defeat didn't really didn't have much effect on us although I remember we were given a bit stick by the Burnley fans.

"I guess it was our pride that was hurt at the time but it didn't matter. It was all about the opening game of the season, then it was Bolton and this time it is Sheffield Wednesday and as long as the team is ready for that.

"But saying that we dont't want to be beaten by them again!"

Graham Branch, who is hoping to make his return to the Burnley first team tonight after missing the last ten games of last season with a knee injury, was another who was introduced late on to try and rectify the situation last July.

"The Isle of Man team were treated like national heroes and it was horrible for us," admitted the midfielder. "Their goalscorer was carried off on the shoulders of their players. We don't want to let them enjoy that again."

And assistant manager Sam Ellis also was keen to put the record straight after last summer's loss.

"We are not very proud of the record of being the only team in 110 years - 111 now - to get beaten by them," said Ellis.

"Obviously we would like to put that right."

Manager Stan Ternent missed Burnley's opening 2-0 win over Wrexham as he flew back to England to try bring a new face to Turf Moor, but is expected to swap and change the side handing a Clarets debut to former Wrexham defender Mark McGregor.

The 23-year-old was signed under the Bosman ruling earlier this month and the Clarets fans who have made the journey are hoping to get their first glimpse of the new boy.

Ian Cox should also get a look in in the back line while Branch and Lennie Johnrose may get the chance in midfield to prove they have overcome the knee and ankle injuries they had last season.

Defender Mitchell Thomas however is a doubt after suffering a slight strain.

Up front, striker Andy Payton will be expected to play a part after sitting out the clash against the Robins - and he could partner Papodopoulos if the signing is completed by then.

And the Burnley management team will be eager to have another look at the four triallists at Turf Moor - midfielders Paul Hughes and Dimitri De Conde, left winger Alan Moore and striker Tony Ellis.

There are rumours that former Preston, Blackpool and Rochdale striker Ellis has signed a three month deal at Turf Moor but Sam Ellis couldn't clear up the situation.

"I don't know what the gaffer has done, all I know that is that is the squad," said the assistant.

But he confirmed that everyone will get a run out in the next two games as they look to increase their sharpness for the coming season.

"We expect everybody to be part of the competition and everybody will get a game," added Ellis.
