BURNLEY are through to the final of the Isle of Man tournament -- but had to survive a penalty shoot-out against Oldham before they confirmed their place in Saturday's clash.

The Clarets drew 1-1 with the Latics at the Bowl last night -- but then lost 6-5 on penalties as Kevin Ball missed the vital spot kick.

However Burnley, with two wins under their belt in the four team tournament, are through on goal difference and will face either Andy Ritchie's side or Wrexham for the final showdown -- although the Robins will have to beat the Isle of Man 4-0 tonight if they want to seal a final spot on Saturday afternoon.

Otherwise Burnley will face defending tournament holders Oldham again.

Clarets boss Stan Ternemt however was just pleased his side are guaranteed another game in the tournament -- and are aiming to win it for the first time in the 20-year history of the competition.

"To us it's just another game and obviously we will look forward to it," said the Clarets boss.

"It is always good to be through to any kind of final.

"The game last night was okay but it is difficult when the pitch is so uneven.

"But this tournament is all about building on our fitness and the final represents another step towards that."

The Clarets boss stuck with the eleven which defeated Wrexham 2-0 on Sunday -- and this was largely the side who finished last season, despite a number of impressive performances in Burnley's 1-0 win over the Isle of Man on Tuesday night.

Trialists Alan Moore, the left winger who was released by Middlesbrough last season, and former Southampton midfielder Paul Hughes did come on as subsitutes in the second half and did enough to grab the attention of the Clarets boss.

"Moore and Hughes have both impressed me but they are here for a couple of weeks and we will keep them ticking over but I won't make any decisions until then. They are both quality players and have made a big difference.

"They are both trying to increase their fitmess levels and we will take a look at the situation later on."

However the boss has revealed his is no nearer making his decision about how he will start the opening game of the season at Sheffield Wednesday.

"I haven't got a clue at the moment," said the gaffer. "We still have a few more pre-season friendlies and we will see."

Ternent however is just relieved to come through the three games so far with out any major casualties although he is still awaiting the news on defender Mitchell Thomas' injury.

Thomas injured his hip on his return to pre season and has not yet figured in any of the games. We know we are in for a tough season next season and we have come to the Isle of Man for two reasons. One is to get the players together and create the atmosphere of togetherness. That is very important," said the Burnley boss.

"The second is to acquire fitness without any injuries and we have done that so far except with Mitch.

"Mitch had got a hip injury but we are not playing him only as a precautionary measure. We are hoping to have him back training soon and we will take it from there."
