FAR be it for me to tell the Oxford English Dictionary their business but the current definition of this particular f-word may have to be re-written after Tuesday night's encounter at Accrington Stanley.

For those Bury fans expecting an "After You Claude" attitude to proceedings, following the UniBond League side's Save Our Shakers fund-raising "friendly" earlier in the year, this match must have come as something of a shock.

Despite a late own goal gifting Bury a 1-0 victory it was 90 minutes to forget for Shakers boss Andy Preece who was far from impressed with his side's performance.

A bad tempered first half liberally sprinkled with X-rated tackles came to a head just before the break when a mass brawl ensued just in front of the dugouts.

When everything settled down the referee asked for Chris Billy to be substituted and when things looked like boiling over again late in the second half former Radcliffe Boro favourite Simon Carden got the same treatment for Stanley.

On the football side Bury gave outings to trialists Matt Murphy a midfielder from Oxford United and Graham Seddon, a striker who played for Everton reserves last season and is currently in the RAF.

Glyn Garner got a "run" out in goal and was replaced by Paddy Kenny at the interval. Maltese international Luke Dimech once again looked the part at the heart of the Bury back line and youngster Marc Whiteman - buoyed by his fine goal at Leigh on Saturday - kept the Accrington defence on their toes with an impressive showing.

The game had 0-0 written all over it until ten minutes before the final whistle when Martyn Forrest's corner kick was only palmed into his own goal by Stanley 'keeper Jamie Speare.

ONE man conspicuous by his absence in the Accrington line-up was striker Lutel James who left Gigg Lane for the Crown Ground two weeks ago.
