EVERYONE has heard of the Jackson Five -- now we have the Smith Nine who are to hit Jazzin' the Park and wow the enormous crowds with an energetic dance routine.

The seven-strong Smith family, accompanied by 11-year-old family friends Jade Ashton and Jane Carefoot, will be dancing to the Destiny's Child chart topping hit Survivor at the event on Avenham Park, Preston, on Sunday, July 29, 11am to 7pm.

Their act has been choreographed by Sade Smith, 10, and her 14-year-old sister Deana Smith.

Sade, a pupil St Michael's School, in Preston Road, Grimsargh, said: "We have put the costumes together to perform the fashion show that we have planned and then we are going to a dance in street wear."

Jazzin' the Park will be the first major event to take place in park since the Party in the Park event and Heineken festivals where the Spice Girls and pop group Oasis made their debuts.

With the cream of top local DJs and kickin' MCs, the show promises to be a unique outdoor summer event, where some of the UK's freshest new talent will hit the stage.

Pioneers in fresh northern UK beats, mixed with old school Punjabi folk vocals and instruments, Rhythm Dhol Bass (RDB), promise to cause something of a stir.

The Singh family, Kuldeep, 24, Manjeet, 23, and Surjeet, 22, produce their own music using traditional instruments mixed with new break beats and music styles -- all included on their new album.

Surjeet said: "We are excited about playing to the Preston crowd and we are confident than ever after travelling round the world and achieving a record label so we will definitely have a few aces up our sleeves."

Also playing are Dangerous Minds, a Preston based commercial RnB/Hip Hop group who formed in October 1996 and have been rocking at shows throughout the country ever since and are currently finishing an album.

Band member/producer Carl Smith, from Broadgate, Preston, said: "We are doing this for the people of Preston, especially to encourage the kids to get out there.

"There is a lot of talent in Preston which needs to be recognised, so hopefully by playing a blinding set we can use the music to inspire others into getting the help they need to make something of it."

The line-up also includes Preston based band Illegal Demo, Manchester's Fingathing and Funky Saxy Pinto Beans.

Entry to the event is free and it looks set to be the event not to be missed this summer.
