THE old St Helens town-centre branch of the British Legion was nicknamed 'The Blood Tub'.

And apart from its rough-and-ready reputation, it had another claim to fame, according to Moss Bank reader Bill Barrow who says that, over its comparatively short history, the club flitted twice, including short-term occupation of an old pub in Westfield Street.

Its third, and final, location, he says, was in Liverpool Road, close to the present postal sorting office. But the name of the pub in which the Legion originally kicked off now elude him.

ANYBODY able to put Bill out of his misery?
