MARTIN Smith and Chris Pickles will represent East Lancashire Sailing Club in the Laser Two World Championships next month after winning The Wills Handicap Series.

Smith, the Northern Byte single handed Champion, and Pickles will take part in the World Championships in Pwllheli between August 25-31 after winning the 11 race Wills series.

Jim Brown finished in second place in a single handed Laser while Jim Bird and John Pashby were in third place in a Way Farer.

Competitors picked their seven best results from the event which has taken place during the Spring and Summer months.

In the Spring Short series, which contained four races on a single day, Neil O'Hare and Pam Holden in a GP14 took the honours.

Jim Bird showed his consistency with another second place while George Liddle was in third place also in a Laser.

The captains competition was won by Nicola Gillham in a single handed Byte with Jim Brown again having to settle for second place.

Martin Smith and Chris Pickles in their Laser Two were in third place.

However, Chris picked up his second winner's prize of the summer after winning the four race Summer Short series. Racing in a Laser, he beat Graham Bentley in a Phantom into second place.

Neil O'Hare and Pam Holden were third in their GP 14.

The club is currently holding the Two Man Series and ELSC Series.

The latest round of the Two Man Series was won by Steve Cryer in his Scorpion with Neil O'Hare in his GP14 in second place.

Peter Barker finished third in a Miracle. Jim Brown in a Way Farer was fourth with Frank Shuttleworth in a Miracle in fifth place.

In the fourth of 11 races in the ELSC Series, Neil O'Hare was first with Phil Barker in a Laser in second place. Jim Brown in a Way Farer was third. Steve Cryer in a Scorpion was fourth with Wendy Birkett in a Topper in fifth place.
