BURY'S hopes of getting a £300,000 windfall look to have been dashed writes Steve Canavan

Reports yesterday suggested First Division Wolves had made a £2 million bid for former Shakers skipper Chris Lucketti, now at Huddersfield Town.

Bury chairman Terry Robinson was delighted at the news of a bid because he had inserted a 15 per cent sell on clause when Lucketti left Gigg Lane.

That would have swelled the Gigg Lane's empty coffers by more than a quarter of a million.

However, there is no truth in a bid being made.

Dave Jones, manager at Wolves, told the BEN: "We have not made a bid for Lucketti. We've been linked with almost every player this summer so it doesn't surprise me but I can tell you there has definitely not been any money offered for Chris."

That is bad news for Bury who desperately need some extra cash to stay afloat.

Terry Robinson, in Wales on the Shakers mini-pre-season tour, had been watching the Wolves-Lucketti story with interest and will be disappointed no bid has been made.

Meanwhile, Bury play Carmarthen Town tonight in their latest pre-season run out.

The club has confirmed a two-year contract has been offered to and signed by young defender Michael Nelson.

It's a dream come true for the 20-year-old who this time last year was working as a blind fitter and playing soccer part-time for Bishop Auckland.

And with star defender Chris Swailes out of the picture. Nelson has a real chance of winning a place in the starting line-up when the Shakers take on Tranmere Rovers in the opening match of the season on August 11.

He won the man-of-the-match award in Monday's draw with Swansea City and is now a key man in Andy Preece's squad.
