THE big match of the week was between the top two, HPSC and Rileys A.

With no league action next week due to individuals matches, this game was set to determine the destination of the title -- and it did.

HPSC stormed to a 6-2 victory to make what looked like being a close race for the championship into a procession.

Alec McAlpine and Steve Waller produced a frame that made Bob Williams look like Tony Drago, the balls eventually being re-racked with Alec coming out the winner.

Talc McAlpine continued his good run of form with a win.

With the usual Pete Bain win, two doubles win and John Young's wonder shot, despite nearly breaking his foot on the fruit machine, the defending champions cruised home.

The Derby A continued their improved form with a 7-1 win over the Dragon. Nick McClellan produced his second consecutive win, a personal record.

Tommy Roberts added to it, Dave Carson, Alan Makin and Brian Toomey piled on the agony for the Dragon.

The Egerton and The Parkside fought out a tough 4-4 draw. The Egerton shot off to a 3-0 lead with Steve Heron being their usual star of the show, but back came the Parkside with wins for the ever-impressive Stuart Gough and both Phil Beestons. They clawed their way back to 4-3 down before Alan Currie pierced Mark Bullough's defences to snatch a 4-4 draw.

In Division Two, Rileys B kept themsleves in contention with an 8-0 win over the Church Inn.

Leaders the Cleveland stay top, but only by a single point after an excellent 6-2 win over the Lord Clive.

Richard Jennings had two fine wins, but the man of the evening was Gary Corrigan. Two wins, one of which was an eight-ball, saw "The Coz" take his boys over the line.

The Cross Keys challenge petered out with a 4-4 draw against the Bay Horse. They look booked for third place again this year.

The Derby B had their second non-defeat in a row by drawing 4-4 at the Bulls Head.

We've all heard the line "You win nothing with kids", well this season Ozzy has proved Alan Hansen right, but he's just maybe starting to change that.

The Rainscough Brew had an 8-0 victory over, now who was it again, oh yes, the absent Ostrich. This was greeted with singing from the committee of "Get your cheque book out for the lads" as they will be fined for this.

This Sunday, August 5, there is a delegates meeting at HPSC at 11am. All monies must be paid up to date and all those teams who have missed meetings will be wise to make sure they attend.
