EVERYBODY with a modicum of common sense knows that a new road linking Morecambe and Heysham to the motorway network is essential, just to maintain status quo with business and tourism, not alone any increases in jobs and trade at Heysham port.

So, don't let the Greens fool you with emotive rubbish and claptrap. Phrases like 'huge swathes of land destroyed', 'damage to areas of scientific interest', 'huge housing and industrial estates being built' the latter is pure speculation.

They conveniently forget or sidestep the facts. The present traffic system in Lancaster is teetering on the verge of collapse.

One broken down lorry or a failed set of traffic lights, could have disastrous consequences without an alternative route, especially in an emergency, putting lives at risk.

If the proposed bus lane from Greyhound bridge to Carlisle bridge gets the go-ahead then Lancaster will be gridlocked at peak times, that's for sure.

Also vehicles crawling along, especially during winter months, are far more damaging to the environment, than when moving freely.

Sure, some disruption to wildlife is inevitable, coitus interruptus for half a dozen rabbits maybe, but only during construction.

Nesting birds could holiday at Leighton Moss. Farmers whose land is affected will be compensated.

Nature is far more resilient than these people would have you believe. The area could be landscaped afterwards. Ever wanders around 'Snatchams?' try counting the rusting shopping trolleys sinking into the Lune mud. Instead we could have picnic areas and nature trails.
