NO inquest is to be held into the death of a Lancaster man who died after a heart defibrillator failed.

Bob Walker died of a heart attack at the age of 50 while playing cricket at Milnthorpe on May 26.

The defibrillator used to try and revive Mr Walker failed to administer an electric shock,

Kendal coroner's office decided against the inquest because a post mortem showed that Mr Walker had died of natural causes.

Meanwhile, tests on the defibrillator which failed have not found any faults with it.

A spokesman for Cumbria Ambulance Service said that extensive testing at the Government-run Medical Devices Agency found nothing wrong with the machine.

"They cannot find anything wrong with it so there is not a lot we can do," he said. All the service's 28 other defibrillators had been checked and cleared.

Tim Lynch, director of operations for Cumbria Ambulance Service said it was impossible to say whether the failure of the service's defibrillator had contributed to Mr Walker's death. The machine will now be sent back to manufacturers, Zoll, for further tests.
