BURNLEY notched their second success of the season but were made to sweat by a Dons outfit who enjoyed the better of the second half.

The visitors took an early lead when, on 10 minutes, the Clarets defence waited for an offside flag that never came and David Neilsen planted a firm right-foot shot past Nik Michopoulos in the Burnley goal.

The home side were behind for only a minute when Dons keeper Kelvin Davis committed the first two two terrible errors.

He attempted to hoof an Alan Kimble back pass upfield but succeeded only in sending the ball spinning into the air and Alan Moore was on hand to mark his Turf Moor debut with a tap-in from eight yards.

The Clarets took control and extended their lead when striker Ian Moore was bundled over by Wimbledon defender Andy Roberts and Paul Cook scored from the penalty spot for the second successive game.

Keeper Davis was in difficulty again on 42 minutes when he fumbled a high ball and Glen Little recovered the loose ball to set up Gordon Armstrong for the simplest of finishes.

The Clarets were riding high at 3-1 at half-time but the second half saw the Dons hit top form.

They reduced the deficit on 64 minutes when Kevin Cooper's deep cross was headed in at the backpost by the unmarked Neil Shipperley.

The visitors almost equalised when David Connolly's low drive hit a post, but the Clarets also had their moments with skipper Steve Davis clipping the bar with a chip.

In the later stages Burnley regained their form and finished deserved winners.
