IF Rovers boss Graeme Souness was given a blank cheque to go out and sign any one of Alex Ferguson's star-studded Manchester United squad then his choice would be simple -- England midfield star Paul Scholes!

"If I could sign any one, then I think I'd go for Paul Scholes just ahead of Roy Keane," said Souness.

"Roy Keane has an obvious influence on the team and the football club but I'd plump for Scholes because of his age.

"He's a midfield player who can create and he's a midfield player who can score goals.

"But you could also play him as a striker, as a wide-man or he'd probably even do you a job as a full-back, if you asked him.

"So I just think he goes about his business in a way that all top players should."

But, though Souness is clearly a huge admirer of many of Fergie's squad, he insists United are far from invincible.

"People make it sound as if they are unbeatable but there's no football team in the world who never loses a game.

"So they're not supermen.

"When I played in a Liverpool team which used to win the European Cup nearly every year we used to get walloped on a regular basis at least once a season.

"So anything can happen on the night and that's the beauty of football."
