RAMSBOTTOM progresses to the first qualifying round of the FA Cup with a hard fought win over NWCL Division Two side Blackpool Mechanics.

Blackpool hit the post through Denis Walsh in the opening minutes and had a goal disallowed.

On 20 minutes United got the vital first goal when David Yorke-Robinson's low cross was turned into his own net by Mechanics's midfielder Neil Houghton. That's how it stood at the interval although Ramsbottom should have been two or three in front after creating a number of good openings.

Although only a goal in front Ramsbottom looked in control.

On 73 minutes Mark Hayes had a goal ruled out for offside but two minutes later Chris Brookes made it 2-0 with a header after the Blackpool keeper Stuart Barton could only parry Russell Brierley's fierce drive.
