POLICE suspect that a man who held up a building society in Preston town centre on Tuesday is the same robber who carried out an identical raid on the building in March.

The suspect was caught on security cameras in the latest raid on Marsden's Building Society, Lune Street, at around 1.45pm.

DS Crichton of Preston police said: "The man walked in to the building society, pulled a card out of his pocket and plonked it on the counter.

"On the card was an implied threat that if she didn't give him money the cashier wouldn't see tomorrow.

"The man had his hand in his pocket, but no weapon was produced. She just took cash from the counter and gave it to him."

He added: "We think that the suspect also robbed the same place on March 21 this year. That robbery happened at exactly the same time of day, almost to the minute, and was carried out in the same way."

The suspect is in his 40's, around 5ft 9ins tall, with a slim build and a gaunt face. He has mousey grey hair on the side of his head, and is bald on top.

The man is clean shaven, with glasses. Police say he appeared to be wearing a light coloured, waist length fleece jacket and a dark shirt and trousers.

Any witnesses should contact DS Crichton on 203203.
