BURY Horticultural Society staged its two-day summer show at Holy Trinity primary school in Bury at the weekend.

The event went ahead despite the death of two key society members.

Mr George Walsh, who held various society posts including secretary and treasurer, passed away in July.

And less than a month later the society lost its chairman and show manager, Mr Jim Harwill. Both had been stalwarts of the organisation and had served the society over many years.

But thanks to the help of friends and colleagues of the Walnut Avenue Allotments Association, the summer show went ahead as planned.

A total of 15 exhibitors submitted 209 entries. The trophies were presented by society president, Mr Robert Poole. And pictured admiring the gladioli at the show is Mrs Margaret Grundy.
