JOHN Booth stole biscuits and sweets from a Darwen store despite having enough money on him to pay for the goods.

Booth, 21, of Police Street, Darwen, pleaded guilty to shoplifting at Netto.

After hearing that Booth had only been released from a custodial sentence three or four weeks earlier the magistrates ordered the preparation of pre-sentence reports with a view to making a community rehabilitation order.

Booth was remanded on bail until October 4.

Julian Peers, defending, said Booth had £11 on him when he stole the items worth just £2.23.

"He has put himself in a very difficult position and he accepts that he has been an idiot," said Mr Peers.
