WHO is the very arrogant Leslie Jones (Letters, September 5) and how dare he insult women in the way he described?

I have lived and worked in Blackburn all my 43 years; and still take pride in my appearance, be it dressed in skirts or trousers.

If I am not 'smartened-up,' as referred to, perhaps its because we 'ladies' do have to bring children up, tend to their needs then rush home after doing the shopping in order to tidy the house, make the evening meal -- yes, in the kitchen! -- and supposedly look absolutely gorgeous for our other half. I don't think you live in today's world, Mr Jones.

Perhaps you should look at yourself for once and then contemplate on what lies behind a person's appearance. You will probably find a lot of nice, decent people who care about others, not what they look like.

J DUCKWORTH (Ms), Quebec Road, Lammack, Blackburn.
