HE may be called Little but the Clarets winger's reputation is growing by the match.

And if the rumours of interest from Premiership clubs are true, so is his transfer fee - not that Burnley have any intention of selling him.

Glen Little was the star of another Burnley thriller at Birmingham City last night, netting two memorable goals in the 3-2 victory that has taken the Clarets five points clear at the top of the table.

True to form Ternent was determined to spread the praise around the team, and rightly so, but he did have some words of praise for his magnificent number seven.

The travelling support were happy to sing "Little for England" and Ternent said: "How far he goes is up to Glen.

"He has got ability, athleticism and skill but this year he has added another string to his bow, he is scoring goals. He has always created them but now he is scoring. He is a top quality footballer and took his goals very well.

"His dribbling skills and quality mean everyone takes notice of him but this is a team effort. From Nik the Greek, through Westy, Gordon Armstrong, Mooro who works his socks off, Bally and Cook in midfield, everyone plays a part.

"That includes the subs on the bench and those players who don't even get a strip on. The players deserve all the credit."

Having praised his side's attitude against Walsall on Saturday, Ternent again appreciated the tenacity of the team with the best record in the country.

"It was a fantastic game of football and some of the goals were exceptional," he enthused. "We were always going forward, trying to score goals and when they came they were right out of the top drawer.

"In the second half Birmingham stepped it up a notch but we defended really well. It was a very competitive, tough match but very fair. They are an extremely good side and will be there or thereabouts at the end of the season.

"When you are top of the table everyone wants to beat you but we are playing with a lot of confidence. They want to put one over you and we just have to handle it."

That confidence was evident in Little's two great goals and the equally high quality effort from Ian Moore.

Having already won four tricky away games, the rest of the division is having to sit up and take notice. Sheffield Wednesday, Millwall, Bradford City and now Birmingham have all been beaten on their own patch and next up is Norwich City at Carrow Road on Saturday.

The Canaries went second in the table last night with a 3-1 victory over Watford to maintain their 100 per cent home record this season.

But that was the Blues boast before the Clarets hit town and no side in the country can be more confident than Burnley.

The one setback on the night was a fifth booking of the season for winger Alan Moore who will now face a suspension. "There is no chance of appealing so we will just have to cope," said Ternent. "It will give someone else a chance to stake a claim."

But Moore's booking could not detract from another very good day at the office. The trip to Norwich can't come quickly enough.
