A RARE mistake from keeper Keith Neild cost Ramsbottom against high-flyers Salford City.

The experienced Neild directed a kick straight into the back of one of Salford's forwards in the 56th minute and Keith Evans pounced to put his side in front.

Salford earlier missed a penalty when Carl Margusson struck the bar from the spot after a harsh handball decision was given against Phil Porter.

And in the last minute Danny Porter could have equalised for the Rams but hit his shot straight at the keeper after finding himself one-on-one.

"Salford are a very good footballing side and they have the money to attract UniBond-experienced players to the club," said Ramsbottom manager Mike Kelly.

"I expect them to be up there challenging at the end of the season.

"But we are playing as more of a side than we were a few weeks ago. The players are listening to me and Paul Williams and playing more as a unit.

"We need to get a win on Saturday against Maine Road because we have lost the last three league games."
