A LATE Graham Fenton goal rescued a point for the Seasiders to complete a spirited comeback in a game which, at one point, they were losing 2-0.

But Steve McMahon's men had only themselves to blame for letting QPR get two ahead, with huge defensive blunders gifting Griffiths his goals either side of half time on Tuesday night.

However a 50th-minute header from John O'Kane and Fenton's 88th-minute strike ensured that the points were shared.

Steve McMahon, not surprisingly, made no changes to the side that heroically beat Huddersfield at the weekend. QPR were also unchanged after enjoying a 4-1 victory against Port Vale on Saturday .

Blackpool never really settled in the first half and, when they went in 1-0 down at half time, no one could argue about the scoreline.

The goal came in ridiculous fashion from Blackpool's point of view and left Steve McMahon fuming. With no real danger Lee Collins and John Hills were involved in a mix-up just outside the area when all either of them had to do was clear the ball. But instead Stewart Wardley latched on to Hills's hesitation to pick out Leroy Griffiths all alone in the box. The QPR danger man couldn't miss.

The second half was all Blackpool but their job was made doubly difficult when they allowed Griffiths and QPR to grab another goal two minutes after the restart.

This time O'Kane was the culprit as Blackpool failed to clear once again, allowing Griffiths to pounce and score his second of the night.

This seemed to really kick Blackpool into gear and within a few minutes they had already pulled a goal back.

John O'Kane made amends for his earlier mistake by connecting with Wellens's cross beautifully to bullet a header past Rangers 'keeper Chris Day and halve the Blackpool deficit.

After that, it seemed Blackpool just couldn't find an equaliser as chance after chance were squandered. Numerous penalty appeals were turned down and it seemed that every time Ormerod was given a decent run on goal he was caught offside.

But Blackpool didn't let frustration get the better of them and they were finally rewarded with an equaliser two minutes from time.

A hopeful ball from the back caught the Rangers defence sleeping and Graham Fenton was allowed to run clear on goal. Helped by a bit of luck, Fenton somehow ricocheted the ball off the keeper and into the net to equalise.

On reflection the 2-2 score line was fair on both sides. Blackpool deserved something from the game after the sheer number of chances they created but, on the other hand, QPR had defended well and looked dangerous on the break.

But Steve McMahon will point to the defensive errors as the main reason for his team's failure to take all three points.

With only a single clean sheet all season, defending will no doubt be the priority in this week's training sessions as McMahon's men prepare to meet Cambridge United, at home, this Saturday (September 22).
