FOR the second time in five days Burnley take their unbeaten away record to a side that has a 100 per cent record on their own ground.

While the Clarets have won at Sheffield Wednesday, Millwall, Bradford and then Birmingham City, the Canaries have taken all 12 points from the visits of Manchester City, Wednesday, Nottingham Forest and Watford.

Burnley boss Stan Ternent is delighted that a number of his injured players are coming along well but is not sure whether the match at Carrow Road might have come too quickly.

But he said: "The great thing about my squad is that I have a lot of options. I have had the lads together for a while now and they are capable of playing in different positions as well as in different formations."

That fact, coupled with his traditional caginess before each match, makes it difficult for rival managers to second guess not only who he will play, but how he will play.

At St Andrews Trevor Francis appeared to have expected Ternent to use a lone striker, as against Bradford, but he was once again successful in employing the same 4-4-2 system that had begun the match against Walsall.

Norwich has been hit by a couple of injuries, notably a damaging cruciate injury to 24-year-old strikerZema Abbey who had made a very promising start to the season having been brought to Carrow Road at the end of last season.

In addition the former Manchester United player Philip Mulryne is struggling to shake off a niggling groin strain that he suffered in the 3-1 defeat of Watford.

Manager Nigel Worthington is giving the Northern Ireland international as long as possible to prove he is fit for action but he has at least been boosted by the return to fitness of club skipper Neil Emblen.

One thing is certain, former Claret Paul Crichton will be warming the bench again because of the form of young Robert Green in goal.

The 30-year-old midfielder was one of six players brought to Norwich in the summer as Worthington sought to assemble a squad capable of avoiding the struggles of last season. After a £600,000 move from Wolves he injured his hamstring in the only league defeat of the season against Millwall on the opening day of the season.

Mark Rivers, signed from Crewe for £650,000, is also in the frame after making his first team debut with the last three minutes as a substitute on Tuesday having been injured in pre-season training.

Another option would be to bring the Dane Steen Nedergaard, a scorer in midweek, in from the wing to act as playmaker alongside the combative Gary Holt.
