A TEENAGER got more than £500 in cash from a pawnbroker using stolen cheques.

Burnley magistrates heard how Andrew Loveday told staff they were his weekly wages.

Loveday, of All Saints Close, Loveclough, admitted handling stolen goods and two counts of deception.

He was given 100 hours community punishment and ordered to pay £265 compensation. He had no previous convictions.

Tom Snape, prosecuting, said a cheque book was stolen from Woodside Services Ltd, in Burnley.

The defendant later went to Kings Jewellers and pawnbrokers with a cheque and said it was his weekly wages.

He used his birth certificate to confirm his identity and after a staff member was unable to contact the firm cash was handed over. Loveday also did the same thing again.
