COUNCILLOR Mohammed Khan says it is Blackburn with Darwen Council's policy to prosecute on every occasion a dog warden witnesses a dog owner allowing his or her pet to foul a public place (LET, September 26).

But there are only two dog wardens for a whole borough of roughly 140,000 people.

People who have to negotiate a minefield of dog dirt each day want the council not just to show its teeth, but to bite.

More wardens are needed to achieve Coun Khan's aim and to sort this problem out once and for all.

I have continually complained to the council about dog dirt in the area where I live and suggested that any person when challenged must produce a council-approved 'pooper scooper' with fines imposed if one could not be produced.

If the council are to get on top of this problem, we need a lot more people helping the dog wardens -- which could be the police and traffic wardens.
