THIS pulsating cup clash was the tale of two deflections, a stunning save and the goal that got away -- and it all went against the Old Blacks.

In terms of possesion Aigburth People's Hall probably deserved their win but they had their fair share of luck getting it.

Substitute Rob Campbell grabbed the extra time winner with a looping deflected shot -- but Old Blacks know that it should not have got that far.

For in the last minute of normal time, APH striker Peter Jones deflected a header towards his own goal only for Colin McKnight to pull off a stunning one handed save.

Lee Taylor rammed the loose ball home but referee Imtiaz Dalal disallowed it for an apparent foul on the keeper.

Had it stood, Old Blacks would surely have won as they were enjoying a 10 minute purple patch following Lee Taylor's fine equaliser.

It was a different story at the start as Old Blacks treated the ball like hot potato -- they found it difficult to cope with the physical presence and menance of a big APH side.

Significantly, their first genuine move led to the opening goal of the game against the run of play.

Paul Walker switched the play superbly from one flank to another and Simon Woodford's cross was firmly headed home by Adam Whittle.

The Sefton side did not deserve to be behind and they drew level just before halftime when John Quayle crossed for Simon Donoghue to glance home a header.

After the break it was APH's turn to soak up the pressure -- and score against the run of play when Quayle unleashed a 35 yard screamer.

But with Andy Haworth on and running the midfield, Old Blacks were now looking more of a force going forward and Paul Marshall saw plenty of the ball down the right.

And with 10 minutes remaining they drew level when Haworth released Taylor who cooly slotted the ball past McKnight.

But after McKnight's last minute heroics, APH knew they had a let off and summoned up the strength to grab an extra time winner -- albeit from Campbell's cruel deflected shot.
