LOCAL volunteers will be in the spotlight next week, at a special ceremony.

The Volunteering Development Project, part of Hyndburn and Ribble Valley Council for Voluntary Service, will present certificates to volunteers who have completed between 25 and 200 hours of voluntary work this year, as part of the certificate scheme, which was set up in February.

Twenty volunteers, from groups including the Citizens Advice Bureau, the Grand Cinema, Skillshare, the Ribble Valley Community Gardening Project, Oxfam and St Paul's Playgroup have so far qualified for certificates.

The event, to be attended by Ribble Valley Mayor Coun Gwen Pye, will be held at the Ribble Valley Borough Council Chambers, Church Street, Clitheroe, on Tuesday October 9 at 5.30pm.

Helen Barton-Hanson from the Volunteering Development Project said: "We're running the certificate scheme as a way of thanking hard-working volunteers for all the effort they have put in supporting the local community, and to highlight the range of work done by volunteers.

"We also hope that these certificates will be recognised by employers and be useful additions to people's CV's, demonstrating volunteers' commitment and skills."

Any group or individual who would like to get involved should contact Helen on 01200 422721.
