Pendle & Keighley U15s Girls 30 Leyland Warriors Girls 16

EARLY tries from Steph Boardman and Fran Cooper were converted by Charley Naylor but the opposition pulled back to 12-12 by the break. The second half stayed evenly balanced but despite another try from Charley Naylor the Warriors could not quite hold the game. There were strong performances all round including Katherine Hart in her first ever game. Best tackler: Kirsty Marshall and player of the match: Kirsty Barrett.

Leyland Warriors U8s 18 Blackbrook 40 A SLOW start for the Warriors which helped Blackbrook score several tries within the first half. The Warriors first try was by Craig Davies who was on loan from Blackbrook to make up numbers followed by two tries from man of the match Danny McLean. An all round good effort from the Warriors team. Fantastic defending from all the Warriors players including Harvey May was top tackler. Billy Saundry made some brilliant runs along with Jack Martland. The second half was much better for the Warriors but Blackbrook had the game in the bag. A nice learning game for some new players.

Leyland Warriors U9s 20 Oldham St Annes 20 A WINDY day saw the Warriors open the score with a well-worked run across field from forward Matthew (Matty Lad) Smith. Oldham pulled level shortly after but Leyland hit back in the guise of Eden (Swede) Clayton with a scoot from the acting half back catching the defence unawares. The strong St Annes team pulled level and ran in a third try to go into the lead at half time leading the Warriors defence dazed by some fierce running and tackling. After the break the opposition opened the scoring again leaving a two try deficit for the young Leyland lads. 'Swede' set-to again and ran in another three tries from all acting half back. Oldham ran in one further try, which left the game in the balance. The dying few minutes of the game saw some courageous tackling by Leyland and the most exciting youth rugby played by both sides with honours being shared. Notable tackling performances came from David Palin, Brandon (Beady) Dixon and Sam Singleton.

Leyland Warriors U11s 20 Leigh Miners 10 THE Warriors put in a great defensive performance to gain their first win of the season. Defences dominated in the first half where Leigh Miners Rangers went into a 6-0 lead, but right on half time Danny Singleton crossed for a fine unconverted try. The Warriors came out for the second half in fine form and Chris How crossed two fine tries and the Warriors led 16-6. Leigh scored to narrow the margin to six points but James Green crossed the whitewash for a fine try and the Warriors ran out convincing winners. Man of the match was Danny Singleton and top tackler was Stephen Bryan.

Warriors U12s 0 Oldham St Annes 28 THE newly formed Leyland U12s put up a particularly good first half team defensive performance against Oldham St Anne's at Bamber Bridge. Linden Dixon ably assisted by Harry Strong and Jamie Baxter created problems throughout the game when St Anne's strength in numbers started to tell in the second half.

Warriors U13s 14 Heysham Atoms 26 WARRIORS U13s made a big improvement in this outing and played some entertaining rugby. Early in the action stand-off Lee Connick scored a fine individual try and showed great elusiveness. Heysham struck back capitalising on Warriors mistakes and by half time held the advantage. An early try to Heysham in the second half shocked Warriors into action. Props Peter Heatly, Simon McDonald and Carl Clayden began to control the middle of the park. This enabled the back to shine and centres Dane Leyland Jones and Lloyd Yates threatened the Heysham try line. Unfortunately, Leyland were unable to prevent some fine individual efforts by the opposition and ultimately paid the price for not controlling the ball while in possession.
